Summary

Allowing new groups of people seeking initial or professional learning to follow higher education courses remotely, opening quality curricula at a national or international level and issuing diplomas is nowadays largely facilitated by the use of information and communication technologies.

Higher education institutions have been quick to grasp this and over the last few years several have expanded access to their training capacity by trying to offer innovative and specifically designed systems.

The round table will provide an opportunity to define the objectives that are usually pursued by those institutions committed to distance and life-long learning; it will also provide an opportunity to discuss and record good practice.
